Four Ingredients. Nothing to Hide.

The Eco Bath London Handmade Bay & Olive Oil Soap is about as straightforward as soap gets: olive oil, laurel oil, lye, and water. No synthetic fragrances, no artificial preservatives, no filler ingredients. Just a traditional, cold-process bar soap made by hand, with a soft, natural scent that comes from the bay laurel oil itself rather than from added fragrance.

Olive oil has been used as the base of handmade soap for thousands of years — it produces a gentle, conditioning lather that cleans without stripping the skin's natural moisture barrier. Laurel oil, derived from the berries of the bay laurel tree, adds a mild, herbal quality and is known for its naturally cleansing and skin-softening properties. Together they make a bar that is gentle enough for daily use on all skin types, including sensitive skin.

At approximately 200 g, it's a substantial bar that will last considerably longer than a standard commercial soap with proper care.

Key Features

Four ingredients only
Olive oil, laurel oil, lye, and water. No synthetic additives, no artificial fragrance, no preservatives. The ingredient list is short because nothing else is needed.

Olive oil base
Olive oil produces a rich, conditioning lather that cleans gently without disrupting the skin's natural moisture balance. It is one of the most skin-compatible oils available and has been used in soap-making for millennia.

Laurel oil
Derived from the berries of the bay laurel tree (Laurus nobilis), laurel oil gives the soap its distinctive mild, herbal scent and contributes naturally cleansing and skin-softening properties. It is the ingredient that distinguishes this soap from a standard olive oil bar.

Handmade
Each bar is made by hand using a traditional process. Minor variations in size, shape, and colour between bars are a natural result of handmade production and not a quality defect.

Suitable for all skin types
The gentle, conditioning formula is suitable for daily use on the face, hands, and body across all skin types, including sensitive and dry skin.

Eco-friendly
Made by Eco Bath London with a commitment to natural, sustainably sourced ingredients and environmentally responsible production.

How to Use

Wet the bar under warm running water and work into a lather between the hands or directly onto the skin. Apply to the face, hands, or body and rinse thoroughly. To extend the life of the bar, store it on a soap dish that allows water to drain freely and air to circulate around the bar between uses. Avoid leaving the bar sitting in standing water.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does this soap smell like?
The scent comes entirely from the bay laurel oil — it is mild, herbal, and slightly woody, with a clean, natural quality. It is not a strong or perfumed scent; it is subtle and fades quickly after rinsing.

What is laurel oil?
Laurel oil (also known as bay laurel oil or laurel berry oil) is extracted from the berries of the bay laurel tree (Laurus nobilis). It has been used in traditional soap-making, particularly in the Levant region, for centuries. It is known for its naturally cleansing, antibacterial, and skin-softening properties and is the defining ingredient in traditional Aleppo soap.

Is this suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes. The formula contains no synthetic fragrances, artificial preservatives, or harsh detergents — the most common irritants in commercial soaps. The olive oil base is particularly gentle and conditioning, making this a good choice for sensitive or dry skin.

Can I use this on my face?
Yes. The gentle, conditioning formula is suitable for use on the face as well as the hands and body. If you have very reactive facial skin, patch test on a less sensitive area first.

How long will the bar last?
At approximately 200 g, this is a substantial bar. With daily use and proper drying between uses (stored on a draining soap dish), it will typically last 4–8 weeks depending on usage habits.

Does lye remain in the finished soap?
No. Lye (sodium hydroxide) is a necessary ingredient in the soap-making process — it reacts with the oils in a chemical process called saponification to create soap. By the time the soap has cured, the lye has been fully consumed in this reaction and no lye remains in the finished bar.
