The Smedbo Outline FK480 is a retractable clothes line that takes the Outline range's philosophy of pure, considered form and applies it to a product most people never think to design properly. The result is a mirror-polished chrome disc — 90 mm in diameter, 30 mm deep — that sits flush against the wall and gives nothing away until the moment you pull the line out. At which point it gives you 2.5 metres of taut, self-tensioning drying line capable of holding up to 6 kg. Then you release it, and it disappears again.

The line is a near-invisible nylon cord feeding from the reel via a knurled chrome knob at the centre of the disc face. Pull it across to the opposite wall, clip the small chrome end-cap into the receiver plate, and the line locks taut automatically. Release it, and the self-tensioning reel winds it silently back into the disc. Both the reel unit and the receiver plate are wall-mounted; full fitting instructions and all fixing materials are supplied. It works equally well in a bathroom, utility room, or kitchen. And when it is not in use, it is simply a polished chrome circle on the wall — which, in the context of the Outline range, is more than enough.

How to Use

Fix the reel unit to one wall and the receiver plate to the opposite wall at the same height, using the instructions and fixing materials supplied. Pull the nylon line from the reel across to the receiver plate and clip the chrome end-cap into the keyhole slot to lock the line taut. Hang garments, towels, or laundry as needed — maximum load 6 kg. To retract, unclip the end-cap from the receiver and allow the line to wind back into the reel automatically. Wipe chrome surfaces with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
